The Department provides customer services to the agricultural, food, fisheries and forest industries. It also helps build and promote the whole food and fibre chain from paddock to plate for domestic and international markets.

Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS)
The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) provides quarantine inspection services for the arrival of international passengers, cargo, mail, animals and plants or their products into Australia, and inspection and certification for a range of animal and plant products exported from Australia.

The Department of Economic Development helps Tasmanian businesses and targeted industry sectors to develop and thrive. It is the first point of contact for companies wishing to establish, relocate, diversify or expand business in Tasmania.

The Department provides policy advice to the Ministers for the Transport and Regional Services portfolio and delivers a variety of programs on
behalf of the Commonwealth Government. The Department has responsibility for a number of policies that may affect shippers and service
providers, including transport and regional programmes. They also conduct research, analysis and safety investigations; provide safety information and advice based upon these investigations; and perform regulatory functions.
DPIW has a central role in industry development, natural resource management, land information services, and environmental issues. The Department's services include agriculture; fisheries and aquaculture; land and water resource management; nature conservation; Crown land management; quarantine; and Service Tasmania shop management.
The Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme helps with the cost of shipping eligible goods between Tasmania and the mainland by sea and only
applies to goods for use or sale within Australia.
It is important to note that cargo moved interstate by air is ineligiible for support under the schene, as are goods destined for export markets overseas.
