The Department provides policy advice to the Ministers for the Transport and Regional Services portfolio and delivers a variety of programs on
behalf of the Commonwealth Government. The Department has responsibility for a number of policies that may affect shippers and service
providers, including transport and regional programmes. They also conduct research, analysis and safety investigations; provide safety information and advice based upon these investigations; and perform regulatory functions.

Department of Primary Industries & Water (DPIW)DPIW has a central role in industry development, natural resource management, land information services, and environmental issues. The Department's services include agriculture; fisheries and aquaculture; land and water resource management; nature conservation; Crown land management; quarantine; and Service Tasmania shop management.

Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme
(TFES - Centrelink)

The Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme helps with the cost of shipping eligible goods between Tasmania and the mainland by sea and only
applies to goods for use or sale within Australia.
It is important to note that cargo moved interstate by air is ineligiible for support under the schene, as are goods destined for export markets overseas.
